Friends of the GTCC Library Meeting Minutes

December 5, 2008

Donald Forbes, Beverley Gass, Jennifer Noga, Margot Horney, Carolyn Schneider, Jennifer Noga

1.        Luminaries will be placed in front of the LRC Building and Medlin Campus Center from 4 – 8pm on December 10.  During the Foundation Crafts  Fair, folks will be able to purchase a luminary for $2 each and they may be purchased at the service desk in the library.  Purchasers may write  on the luminary bag the name of person whom they are honoring or remembering.

Margot will obtain the candles, bags and sand.  Ther e will be a crew gathered at 3:00 pm outside the bottom floor door of the library to assemble, distribute and light the luminaries.  Beverley will be on campus at 8:00 pm to be sure luminaries are extinguished.

(Since the weather was not cooperative and it was pouring rain on the 10th, the FOL Board members agreed to do this on January 12 at the start of Spring semester as a welcome back moment.)

2.        Carolyn reported that the following Spring programs are planned focusing on some of the works depicted in the “Picturing America” collection (dates  are tentative):

January 28 - Jackie Simpson – social issues

February 25 - Lee Kinard – Travel diaries

                 March 25 - Steve Patton – architecture

We agreed that we will do this at lunch time and that the FOL will provide lunch.  We will ask for people to RSVP.  Beverley will ask Sandy Cratty to manage the food arrangements.

3.        Place mats – Matilda had suggested earlier that she could design place mats that were not time limited, but more generic about the work of the FOL.  Beverley will discuss this with her to see if she can design those for us now.

4.       Art Show – this third annual event will open March 26.
