2007-11-28Friends of the GTCC Library Board Meeting Minutes November 28, 2007 Action Item: Don - ask Jennifer about joining the FOL Board and chairing the Marketing Committee. (Don asked Jennifer. She agreed 11/30.) Margot - ask Robin Baker about co-chairing art show. Design membership form. (1) Carolyn – design membership campaign; speak to Howard Millican (2) Beverley – get program information to Matilda Matilda – design placemats and program poster Participants: Carolyn Schneider, Don Forbes, Margot Horney, Beverley Gass, Matilda Kirby Smith The notes of the meeting are not reported chronologically since that would be nearly impossible given the way the discussions digress and flow. Marketing Committee After a discussion about the need for a publicity committee, Don recommended that the library’s marketing committee become the marketing committee for the Friends. He will ask Jennifer Noga if she would be willing to expand the work of the current committee to include responsibility for marketing for FOL. He will invite her to join the Board. Art Show Committee Margot Horney is the chair of this committee and she will ask Robin Baker to co-chair it with her. If Robin agrees, she, too, will be invited to be a part of the board. Membership Committee Carolyn Schneider agreed to chair this committee. She will ask Renee at circ desk to identify other faculty and staff who use the library frequently as a source of names of others to ask to serve on the FOL Board. Emily Williams name was also provided as someone who could assist Carolyn, if needed. Carolyn agreed that she would develop some plans for a membership campaign. Margot volunteered to design a membership form. Carolyn will also check with Howard Millican to see if she is interested in continuing to serve on the FOL Board. We discussed what being a member of the FOL means. We agreed that we will not be a formal organization but a group of persons who are interested in supporting the library. Benefits to members include getting an FOL tee shirt, advance notice of programs, access to the FOL iTunes site, full use of the library, and the enjoyment of supporting GTCC’s library [this last is new, and Don fixed the Web info 11/29]. This definition of what it means to be a member seems to suit the actual way the group operates. In keeping with the discussion, therefore, we decided it would be more useful/fun to have different names for the categories of membership. Here are the categories of membership: (Don edited the Web info on 11/29) Pal $5.00 Good Friend $10.00 Really Good Friend $25 Bosom Buddy $50 BFF (Best Friend Forever) $125 Programs Beverley reviewed the list of meetings. We did agree that placemats are still important and that Beverley should this info to Matilda ASAP for her to design placemats for the Culinary program dining rooms. The programs include the December 6 presentation by Belinda Daniels-Richardson about the GTCC Archives; the February 14 GTCC Quarter-Century Panel discussion; the April 11, presentation by Lee Kinard about his new book, A History of GTCC, and the spring faculty, student, staff, and alumni art show scheduled for late March and early April. Future Agenda Item: how to spend existing library fines. MKS/df idea 11/29: Fine money for Turning clickers to use for library instruction?
post-meeting: Beverley, on 1/24/08: "Jennifer, as the newest member and the chair of the Marketing Committee, will you begin the process of letting all know about the February 14 Quarter Century Panel..." (1)
